This FCP study was commissioned by the United Kingdom’s Department for Transport (DfT) to investigate the feasibility of establishing a freight locomotive which can run through the Channel Tunnel from England into France and, preferably, beyond (i.e. a ‘Pan-European’ locomotive).
Freight routes in Ontario
FCP provided advice to Metrolinx on strategic options for the interplay of freight and passenger rail services in Toronto.
Transnet Freight Rail throughput adviser
FCP advised Transnet Freight Rail on increasing throughput on South Africa’s busiest heavy-haul railway. FCP also provided senior UK rail managers to work alongside and “mentor” Transnet’s managers.
New rail freight market in Wales and Scotland
FCP was retained to explore the business case for switching timber haulage from road to rail. FCP then managed trial services using freight multiple units.
Rail freight capacity programme in Argentina
FCP completed a feasibility study for the Argentine Government on rail movement of bulk freight from the interior to a major port. The review included assessment of available infrastructure, rolling stock, economic and environmental costs/benefits.
Freight railway management for the Rift Valley Railway
FCP was appointed to assess productivity improvements and bring best practice in railway disciplines including rolling stock acquisition, maintenance, finance, market development, safety and security.
